The Alabama Vocal Association (AVA) is the choral division of the Alabama Music Educators Association (AMEA), which is the state chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Our mission is to provide a variety of educational experiences for students that will encourage their lifetime appreciation of and participation in the art of choral music. Our goals include promoting cooperation among choral directors in Alabama, enhancing the programs of vocal music in schools in Alabama, providing a means for professional ideas and methods to be shared, and promoting growth and higher standards in music education throughout the state. Link to each of the twelve annual AVA events at the left of this page for more information and application forms. |
All-State is just around the corner! See the All-State page for information that is already available, including the Rehearsal Schedule and clinician biographies, and more to come, including meal ticket details. |
| Choral Advocacy | ||
The AVA Board is committed to serving the choral directors of Alabama by offering growth opportunities and providing positive encouragement for individual school choral programs. As the economic base becomes more uncertain and programs are in jeopardy, we are continuing and expanding our advocacy focus. The AVA Board has made a commitment to fund the production of a brochure for teachers to share with legislators, parent organizations, and school boards, as well as other visual means of advocacy. The Presidential Council for Arts Advocacy is designed to help keep the vocal arts programs in Alabama alive and strong, as well as give guidance to beginning music educators. Jane has appointed past president Kathy Hughes, who has a wealth of experience and knowledge, to spearhead the campaign. |
