Honor Choir Screening and Festival

Honor Choir Festival: TBA

Honor Choir is a venue at the AMEA Conference during even-numbered years (i.e., January 2008, 2010, etc.). Choral directors choose one or two quartets (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) from their best students in grades 10-12. Students in the quartet(s) are screened (group audition) on the Honor Choir music and, if selected for Honor Choir, rehearse and perform during the AMEA Conference

Honor Choir Screening Checklist:

1 Honor Choir Music: Directors should order music for each student selected by the director for Honor Choir at least eight weeks prior to the screening date, and should contact the District Chair for copies of music that has not been received by three weeks before the screening.

2 "Must Know" Info: Print and study P7 for specific information regarding Honor Choir procedures.

3 Screening Application: Mail Screening Application Packet by the deadline to your District Chair (see deadline and address below). Include these items in your application packet :

  • completed form F14 OR fillable PDF F14
  • (no cost for screening!)
  • a copy of your MENC card
  • Please add a $50.00 late fee if mailing after the deadline.

4 Screening: District Chairs will contact directors about the time for the screening. Each student must have a complete set of Honor Choir music (NO PHOTOCOPIES) at the screening.

5 Registration (for those who pass the screening): Directors will receive notification of students accepted into Honor Choir after screening. If you have not received this by December 1, contact your District Chair. For students accepted into Honor Choir, mail the Honor Choir Registration Packet by December 15 to Pat Blackwell, AVA Executive Secretary, 1703 Emily Circle, Huntsville, AL 35802:

  • completed forms F15 and F15a OR fillable PDF F15 and fillable PDF F15a
  • school check or signed school Purchase Order
  • Please add a $50.00 late fee if mailing after 12/15.

Honor Choir Fees:

  • Screening Fee: NO COST
  • Festival Registration Fee per student: $25.00
  • Festival Registration School Fee: $40.00
